SED offers a full complement of satellite operations services to government and commercial clients.
In the area of space science and remote sensing, SED has been under contract with the Canadian Space Agency since 1995 to control and monitor the RADARSAT-1 and SCISAT satellites.
Through the provision of a dedicated team of qualified personnel, SED supports the operation, maintenance, management and ongoing evolution of satellite control and support systems provided by the CSA. SED's team of more than 50 engineers and technicians, located at CSA headquarters and at SED's facility in Saskatoon, has expertise in payload and bus engineering analysis, orbit prediction and maintenance, payload scheduling and ground systems engineering.
As an example of what we can do, RADARSAT-1, which was launched in 1995 and designed to be operational for 5 years, still provides Canada and the world with vital information derived from its radar data, serving commercial, government and scientific users alike. Similarly, SCISAT, which was launched in 2003, continues well beyond its two-year design lifetime to help international scientist teams improve their understanding of the depletion of the ozone layer.
SED is now providing flight operations services to the RADARSAT-2 mission as well, and is providing its expertise to various industrial teams in the areas of mission and operational planning as they develop new and innovative satellite programs.
Commercial clients for satellite operations services include the Ciel Satellite Group. At its facilities in Saskatoon Canada, SED has expanded its satellite control center facilities to support telemetry, tracking and control (TT&C) operations for Ciel-2, a communications satellite launched in December 2008.
