In 1997 SED was awarded a contract by General Dynamics Canada (GDC) to produce an RF amplifier for the Canadian Armed Forces under the TCCCS program. SED worked with GDC to North Americanize a British design originally manufactured by Racal. In a major cost reduction effort SED worked with a casting supplier to produce a higher quality cheaper cast enclosure for the amplifier. SED also developed automated RF test equipment to reduce testing costs. SED continues to manufacture VIUs for GDC today, with over 5000 delivered to date.
