The Galileo IOT system was originally designed to test the four in-orbit validation (IOV) satellites for the European Space Agency’s Galileo positioning satellites. The system has continued to be used to test all of the full orbit constellation (FOC) satellites that comprise the 30 satellite low earth orbit (LEO) constellation.
The system is a customized version of SED’s IOT product. Standard measurements were used for the typical transponder measurements on the Search and Rescue (SAR) payload. Custom measurements were developed for the L-band navigation signals and include in-depth signal processing of the complex signal in space definition. Custom automated tests were developed to precisely control the navigation messages to be uplinked for the data stream.
The system was installed and integrated with four antennas at the Redu earth station in Belgium.
