WorldSpace Transparent Feeder Link Station (TFLS).

SED provided the design, integration, installation, and commissioning of the Transparent Feeder Link Stations for digital audio broadcast services in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The station consists of a 4.8 m X-/L-band antenna and redundant RF chain, including 3 kW Klystrons, upconverters, modulators, and GPS receivers. The station uplinks three 3.68 Mbps TDM streams corresponding to the WorldSpace digital format. The baseband portion of the installation consists of a redundant LAN-based broadcast channel routing computer and TDM control computers. Also collocated with this equipment are studio computers that take analog or digital audio inputs, create MPEG-based service components and broadcast channels, and forward these channels on a transport interface to the routing computers.

WorldSpace Processed Feeder Link Station (PFLS).

SED also designed, integrated, installed, and commissioned fourteen Processed Feeder Link Stations for digital audio broadcast services in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Each station consists of a 4.8 m, 3.8 m, or 2.4 m X-/L-band antenna and redundant RF chain, including 25, 50 or 100 W integrated upconverters/SSPAs, and GPS receivers. Each station can uplink a multiplicity of 16 kbps primary rate channels based on a broadcaster’s requirements for number of channels and overall bit rate.
